Day 1
Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport

Welcome to Tanzania. Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, a representative from Tansania Toll Safaris will meet you and assist with your transfer to Arusha. The airport lies approximately 40 to 50 kilometres from Arusha, with the journey normally taking around one hour, depending on traffic and road conditions.

As you travel toward Arusha, enjoy your first impressions of northern Tanzania, with views of local communities, coffee growing areas and, when the weather is clear, distant glimpses of Mount Kilimanjaro or Mount Meru. After reaching your accommodation, the remainder of the day is reserved for relaxation and preparation for the safari ahead.

Day 2
Arusha National Park

After breakfast, you depart for Arusha National Park, one of the closest wildlife destinations to Arusha and an excellent introduction to a Northern Tanzania safari. The park lies roughly 25 to 30 kilometres from Arusha, with the drive usually taking approximately 45 minutes to one hour.

Covering approximately 552 square kilometres, Arusha National Park brings together forests, open grasslands, volcanic landscapes and wetlands beneath the impressive slopes of Mount Meru. Your game drive may take you through areas around the Momella Lakes and Ngurdoto Crater, while wildlife sightings can include giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, warthogs, antelopes and several primate species. The park is particularly rewarding for travellers interested in scenery, birdlife and a quieter safari experience.

Tarangire National Park

Today you enter one of the great wildlife landscapes of Tanzania's Northern Safari Circuit, Tarangire National Park. From Arusha, the journey to the Tarangire area is approximately 120 to 150 kilometres, generally requiring around two to three hours, depending on the route and road conditions.

Tarangire covers approximately 2,850 square kilometres and is instantly recognisable for its magnificent baobab trees, sweeping savannah and the Tarangire River, an important source of water for wildlife. During your game drive, search for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes, impalas and predators such as lions, while your guide interprets the wildlife behaviour and landscapes around you.

Tarangire is particularly famous for its elephant viewing, making this day one of the photographic highlights of your 5 Day Tanzania wildlife safari.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After an early breakfast, travel toward the magnificent Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where rolling highlands gradually rise toward one of Africa's most extraordinary natural landscapes. The drive from the Tarangire region to the Ngorongoro area varies according to your lodge location and route, but travellers should generally allow several hours for the journey.

The wider Ngorongoro Conservation Area protects highland plains, forests, savannah ecosystems and important wildlife habitats while also supporting communities within the landscape. Its centrepiece is the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, recognised by UNESCO as part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area World Heritage Site.

You will descend from the crater rim onto the floor for a memorable Ngorongoro Crater safari, exploring grasslands, wetlands and woodland habitats. Wildlife commonly encountered can include wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, gazelle, hippos and lions, while the crater is also one of the important areas in northern Tanzania where travellers may have the opportunity to see the endangered black rhinoceros.
